Most Bizarre Objects Ever Sold at Auction

If you look around your home right now, there might be something worth a surprising amount of money if you put it up for auction.

Each year, news outlets create a list of the strangest things they’ve seen sold during the past 12 months. You’ll find everything from Pope-shaped Cheetos to locks of neanderthal hair trading hands.

From those annual lists over the past 50 years, here are the most bizarre objects ever sold.

1. Winston Churchill’s Dentures

To be fair, Churchill wore gold-plated dentures. That means they have a little value to them. When they went up for auction, they sold for over $20,000.

2. Concert Air from Kanye West

Although they didn’t sell for $60,000, two plastic bags allegedly filled with air from the Yeezus tour have gone up for auction more than once.

3. Elvis Presley Underwear

You can keep the King close to you by owning a pair of his underwear. An unwashed set worn during a 1977 concert was put up for sale in 2012 for $11,000.

4. J.D. Salinger’s Toilet

Salinger became famous for his books and travels. Since you never know what you might eat while on a boat or crossing a country by train, having his personal toilet might make sense if you’re a fan. It hit eBay for $1 million.

5. A Violin from the Titanic

As the story of the sinking of the Titanic goes, Wallace Hartley allegedly kept playing the violin to keep the trapped passengers from panicking while everyone else escaped. When the instrument went up for auction in 2013, it sold within ten minutes for over $1 million.

6. Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Cake

When Queen Elizabeth married Prince Philip in 1947, the event was a global spectacle. On their 65th anniversary, a slice of it went up for sale. It would go for over $600.

7. Abraham Lincoln’s Hair

A lock of Abraham Lincoln’s hair sold for $25,000 at a Dallas auction. It is said that the Surgeon General removed it after the assassination took place.
